DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2004 Brokaw interviews UN President and Vietnam Veteran John French Kerry

Brokaw: "If you had been President, Saddam Hussein would be in power."

Kerry: "Not necessarily."

Brokaw: "You said you wouldn't go to war against him."

Kerry: "That's not true. Because under the inspection process, Saddam Hussein was required to destroy those kinds of materials and weapons."

Brokaw: "But he wasn't destroying them."

Kerry: "That's what you have inspectors for. That's why I voted for the threat of force, because he only does things when you have a legitimate threat of force. It's irresponsible to suggest that if I were President, he wouldn't be gone. He might be gone, because if he hadn't complied, we might have had to go to war, but if we did, we would have gone with allies, so the American people weren't carrying the entire burden. And the entire world would understand why we did it."

Allies = France. U.K., Austrailia, Poland, Japan, Italy and the rest... sorry. Your loyalties are no good here. Russia? Maybe. If you promise that you haven't been helping Saddam move any conventional or WMDs.

It's all France and the United Nations. That nonsense about them being knee deep in Oil for Food shit is all deflection from Cheney and Halliburton.

Rest assured, Karl Rove won't get away with that.

The CIA and FBI authenticated the al Qaeda video regarding a "massive attack" on the U.S. Ok. What is ABC worried about? Could it be that news like this might drive more voters to Bush?

Wanna air half-assed research pieces 36 hours before an election? Fine. Forged memos used against a sitting president. Proceed. Terror warning authenticated week before election: WAIT! What might the implications be?

The CIA/FBI should release the tape to all news outlets or air it via news conference if it has any credibility.

Guardian Unlimited US elections 2004 Reaction from the US to the Guardian's Clark County project Via Command Post

Apparently the Guardian thought they'd try to sway some swing state counties by writing letters to residents encouraging a Kerry vote. I'd like to thank the Guardian for helping capture Ohio for Bush and getting our president four more years in the White House.

The most recurring message, even by one Kerry supporter, is that this stunt will probably sway neutral or Bush-leaning voters towards Bush because of the perceived "butting in" that the Guardian has done.

With Kerry trying to explain his way out of his "global test" gaffe, it's been proven via polls and likely focus groups, that the "let no country have a veto over US protection" line resonates well with Americans.

So here's an idea: Let's mail a bunch of U.S. swing states, from England, trying to influence an election against an encumbent during a war.

Rest assured, Karl Rove has dual citizenship.

Sally Zwanger, a poll watcher for the Kerry campaign, claimed the problems reflected on the inability of Gov. Jeb Bush's administration to fix voting problems left over from the 2000 election.

"The worst thing to hear was, 'I support Kerry, but I can't wait in this line,'" she said. "We are having a repeat of 2000, and it's only in Florida that this could happen. This administration would do anything to ensure that he [Bush] stays in office."
Wow, Sally. That's an original talking point.

File it under: You hear that, Religious Right? Cheney's daughter is GAY!

Mention of Gay Daughter a Cheap Trick, Lynne Cheney Says (washingtonpost.com) Registration required

Lynne is pissed and she has a right to be.
Lynne V. Cheney, wife of Vice President Cheney, accused John F. Kerry on Wednesday night of "a cheap and tawdry political trick" and said he "is not a good man" after he brought up their daughter's homosexuality at the final presidential debate.
Stating the obvious:
Lynne Cheney issued her post-debate rebuke to a cheering crowd outside Pittsburgh. "The only thing I can conclude is he is not a good man. I'm speaking as a mom," she said. "What a cheap and tawdry political trick."
And before Edwards promised to heal the paralyzed and raise the dead...
Kerry's running mate, Sen. John Edwards (N.C.), also made a reference to the sexual orientation of Cheney's daughter, during the vice presidential debates, and Republicans complained that it was an underhanded way of trying to hurt the Bush-Cheney ticket with religious conservatives.
Yes, it is an underhanded attempt to sway a few voters. I doubt it's effectiveness since everyone seems to find it a bit underhanded. I hope this backfires. It probably won't matter.

*****

Update: Donk campaign response -

Senior Kerry aide acknowledges "it was not his best moment," but calls charges that it was inappropriate "ridiculous… The woman is in her thirties. She's public about her sexuality. It was brought up in the last debate. So, what the hell?" ABC News' Marc Ambinder reports…

Hell = You've missed the point. Then Elizabeth Edwards chimes in...

"She's overreacted to this and treated it as if it's shameful to have this discussion. I think that's a very sad state of affairs… I think that it indicates a certain degree of shame with respect to her daughter's sexual preferences… It makes me really sad that that's Lynne's response."

Halperin Memo Dated Friday October 8, 2004

It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave [ed.- or obvious, if you will]

I do not want to set off (sp?) and endless colloquy that none of us have time for today - nor do I want to stifle one. Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.

The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done.

Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win. [WTF? Why then?]

We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that. [You don't do it anyway]

I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Kerry [and the MSM] to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right. [Translation: It's up to us to defend Kerry. Do your best to spin to voters all things Kerry.] All emphasis mine (all bullshit theirs).

These types of items are starting to lose their shock value. If anyone can look you straight in the face and say that the MSM isn't biased to the left after all this you reserve the right to point right at their face and laugh hysterically for no fewer than five minutes.

Rest assured, Karl Rove put Halperin up to this.

File it under: I'll Give You Three Guesses Why

Yahoo! News - Poll: Youth Tie Bush, Draft Reinstatement

I wonder if this has anything to do with C-bs reporting or general journalistic omissions that the bill was Rangel's (D - NY) idea and not a Republican bill? Leave it to internet rumors perpetuated via the MSM, too much MTV and news gathering via Cameron Diaz. This article makes me want to do two things:
  1. Raise the voting age to 30
  2. Kick someone's cat

At least 25% of those polled believe correctly that neither want to restate the draft. Although Kerry has mentioned wanting to require all youth to do mandatory civil duty.

"Young voters are much more misinformed about the presidential candidates' positions on the draft than the population in general," said Kate Kenski, an analyst at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center.

Good call, Kate. How about that next line?
Three in 10 adults think Bush wants to reinstate the draft, and 7 percent of all adults think both Bush and Kerry feel that way.
Half of 18-29 year olds, then throw in 30% of older adults.

Methinks clueless voters break to Kerry's advantage. Fortunately that youth voter block has the lowest turnout of all groups.

*****

Update: 39% of those polled stated general indifference towards the draft due to the fact they would be receiving funds from a Nigerian business partner in a matter of days, enabling them to leave the country.

From a NYT Op-ed by Paul Bremmer III
"Mr. Kerry is free to quote my comments about Iraq. But for the sake of honesty he should also point out that I have repeatedly said, including in all my speeches in recent weeks, that President Bush made a correct and courageous decision to liberate Iraq from Saddam Hussein's brutality, and that the president is correct to see the war in Iraq as a central front in the war on terrorism.
A year and a half ago, President Bush asked me to come to the Oval Office to discuss my going to Iraq to head the coalition authority. He asked me bluntly, 'Why would you want to leave private life and take on such a difficult, dangerous and probably thankless job?' Without hesitation, I answered, 'Because I believe in your vision for Iraq and would be honored to help you make it a reality.' Today America and the coalition are making steady progress toward that vision."

From the Drudge Report:
Chirac lashes out against US cultural domination
Thu Oct 07 2004 21:37:42 ET

French President Jacques Chirac warned Thursday of a "catastrophe" for global diversity if the United States' cultural hegemony goes unchallenged.

Speaking at a French cultural center in Hanoi ahead of Friday's opening of a summit of European and Asian leaders, Chirac said France was right to stand up for cultural and linguistic diversity.

The outspoken French president warned that the world's different cultures could be "choked" by US values.

This, he said, would lead to a "general world sub-culture" based around the English language, which would be "a real ecological catastrophe".

Citing Hollywood's stranglehold over the film industry as an example, Chirac stressed that only with government assistance could countries maintain their cultural heritage.

Vietnam is a former French colony, but only around 375,000 of its 81 million people speak French. English is considered by most people a far more valuable and practical second language, particularly among businessmen.

I'd have to say that the desire for English is the product of having the #1 economy on the planet. If you'd like to do business with us or work for us, you'll need to speak English. I'm sure having the most free and diverse society plays a role, too. You'll wanna speak the language in the Land of Opportunity.

"Choked," Jacques? That's actually what we should do to you with all your subversive activities regarding Iraq over the past six years, asshole.

Slight Format Change:

Due to an email from Satori of the TX, I will be blogging on current events. They'll be politics and GWOT related mostly with some random stuff thrown in.

For those curious, the Terrorxchange will get little to no attention regarding major changes through the first of the new year. The designers have taken on other major projects. As a fundamental supporter of capitalism, I can only agree with their decision. The TX will still have minor updates and maintenance but other than that, it's on autopilot for the time being.

Therefore, I'll start blogging, as millions of others are, on current topics. Rarely will it ever be my original. Others can do many times better in less time and with less effort.

I've taken the format change of 'File it under...' and each entry will have a topic. I expect many files to be large. You'll see what I'm referring to.

Terrorxchange blogging, while frequent at the beginning of summer and becoming rare in August and September will probably die off completely, until things develop further.

Until then, I hope I can direct folks that found this from the TX to some worthwhile blogs.

Regards,

J D. "Hoodlumman"
