When I get the urge to think that left is just simply naive, something like this happens...

It seems that San Francisco doesn't want the USS Iowa.

Why is it significant that the city wouldn't want an aging battleship from the WW2 era, you ask? It's notable because:
"The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 3-8 against a resolution urging the San Francisco Congressional Delegation to support the permanent berthing of the USS Iowa as a museum at the Port of San Francisco. The congressional delegation secured $3 million in 2000 to move the USS Iowa, which was present at the signing of the treaty between Japan and the U.S. in 1945, from Rhode Island to the Bay Area, the proposed resolution says. A study commissioned by the Port of San Francisco concluded that the ship would attract more than 500,000 people during its first year at the waterfront, according to the proposed resolution. "
Let's see, a piece of American History that will generate money for the community, what's the problem?

Ah, here we are:
"But Tom Ammiano said today he didn't want the ship berthed in San Francisco because of the military's treatment of gays and lesbians and its "don't ask, don't tell'' policy. "It's dehumanizing,'' Ammiano said. "You are not allowed to be a gay or lesbian in the military except when there is a war and then when the war ends, you are kicked out.''
We also add:
"Supervisors Ross Mirkarimi and Chris Daly also spoke out against the resolution, citing their opposition to the US occupation in Iraq. "I am sad to say I am not proud of the history of the United States of America since the 1940s,'' Daly said."
We aren't exactly singing your praises here either, jackass.

Hmmm, let me see. How would I address this argument if I were there at the time of the comments in question?
  • I could use the unknown quote of "Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason."
  • I could give Kissengers quote that "Ninety percent of the politicians give the other ten percent a bad reputation."
  • I could add that Iowa served with distinction and earned 11 battle stars in its career.
  • I could add that the ship was defending American freedom before most of San Francisco's residents were born.
  • I could add that the Iowa was Admiral Halsey's flagship for the Japanese surrender ceremony on 2 September,1945.
But these things are things that can be said to reasonable people to make an argument that compels with logic or patriotism and decency or common sense. In short, these are not things I would say if I were in San Francisco with those voters.

Instead I would say this:

Tom Ammiano needs a damn history book. The policy at that time wasn't "don't ask, don't tell." That crap came about under Clinton and his pandering to your gay buddies. The policy back then was "homosexual and you were out." For good reason too. The reason being that back then the US wasn't a "situational ethics" driven society led by gutless politicians with political correctness in the front of their minds. It was run by people that understood that we had been attacked on our soil by aggressors. A concept that is totally foreign to you candy-assed suckups ruling the city of San Francisco today. I would add that Ross Mirkarimi and Chris Daly are thankless morons who spit on the graves of every American served on that ship. You have a right to not support Iraq because of the fact that the people who served on the Iowa, and the ships like it, kept you from growing up speaking German or Japanese. You are spineless political crap piles who pander for votes by pissing on the men and women who gave you the freedom to be such thankless shits.

I hope that each person who used such pathetic and lame excuses to vote against this measure would be honest enough to look in the mirror and admit that you are political whores and that you sold out your souls and everything worth standing for so you could ensure your continued power. I hope you all trip down a flight of stairs patting each other on the back, you pack of godless jackals.
