Wilson's Partisan Agenda
| We all know it happened- Karl Rove spoke with several reporters about Joe Wilson's trip to Africa. Specifically, Rove underscored that senior CIA leadership did not approve Wilson's trip to Africa to investigate claims that Saddam Hussein's government had attempted to buy uranium from African nations, but rather- that Wilson's wife had Green-Lit the trip. Valerie Plame and her husband were partisan Democratic party activists- it wouldn't surprise me if they conspired to undermine the US justification for the war. Indeed, they would have every reason to bring scrutiny to the Bush Whitehouse. According to Vincent Fiore at The Reality Check... Joseph Wilson has had extensive ties to the Democratic Party throughout much of his time in Washington. Wilson is an unabashed supporter and donor to the Kerry/Edwards campaign for the presidency. In 2000, he donated to Vice President Gore's election, as has his wife, Valerie Plame. In the mid-eighties, Wilson worked for Gore as a congressional staffer. He has donated money to such liberal stalwarts as Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy. He has in the recent past spoken to liberal "527" groups like Win Without War, which is a part of MoveOn.org, the premiere liberal hate group that is renowned for its coarse and hate-inspired political sloganeering. In other words, Plame's nepotistic approval of her partisan husbands trip makes about as much political sense as naming Abu Hamza the UN special envoy to Israel. Plame acted in a partisan manner, in an effort to undermine the US justification for war. Wilson's report was debunked by other intelligence analysts, and has now been entirely discredited. It is clear to me that they conspired to do political harm to the President. Enter Karl Rove. Rove knew what was going on, and wanted to bring a spotlight on Plames partisan effort to undermine President Bush. He solicited reporters to bring attention to Wilson's trip. He alleges that he didn't name Plame or out her as a secret agent, but referred to her simply as Wilson's wife. This is not enough to violate federal laws concerning the "outing" of an undercover agent. It would have been up to a reporter to investigate this further, and they would have found out on their own what Plame's role was at the CIA. |
