A Modern Day Atlantis?
| Wunderkraut asks some serious questions regarding the reconstruction of New Orleans - primarily "should it even be done?" Give it a read. My take? Yes and no. Efforts should be taken to restore the area, primarily the industrial base. The area is vital to the oil industry given the proximity to the Mississippi River and the proximity to the oil and gas located in the gulf. However, it's high time to either dramatically overbuild the dike and levy system or to put a moratorium on reconstruction in the absolute low-lying areas remaining. Rebuilding cheap and poorly planned buildings in high-risk areas are a waste of private and public funds. More debate in the comment section of WK's post... |
